MESSAGE OF THE PRESIDENT EXECUTIVE COMMISSION:

Taguspark is the largest (approximately 130ha and of many other companies) and the oldest of the Portuguese parks of Science and Technology (it was born in the public initiative and private participation in July 30, 1992 as Tagusparque – Society for the Promotion and Development of Science and Technology Park of Lisbon Area, S.A.). It was admitted at the time – and it is known today – that the development of a city, a region, of a Country, can be enhanced through the creation of favorable conditions to make enjoy the relations between the vertices of a virtuous triangle: knowledge creation (in research institutes), transfer and dissemination of this knowledge (in the institutions of higher education), and application of this knowledge (in and by the companies).

At the time, the chosen place to balance this alchemy of the conversion of the thought into goods and services, it would not seem obvious. At the time when the first institution (the ISQ) has ventured to settle down in the perimeter of the Taguspark, in 1993, and has launched the first stone of what it would come to be its Central Nucleus, the area around were an agricultural zone for infra-structuralizing. But, as one of our greatest poets wrote, “God will, man dreams, the work is born.” The desert area and poorly served by communication routes did not remain like this for much longer time and the polarizing dynamic of the Municipality of Oeiras, for which the growth of Taguspark contributed, created an axle of development that has attracted, and still attracts, a great number of companies, some universities, and has already an considerable set of scientific research institutions.

To those who came after the pioneers of the modernism that, in successive waves, made of Oeiras the council with the best indicators of socio-cultural of the Country, remains to give continuity to the very good accumulated in the lean two decades of History. The mission of the company who inherited the dreams of the visionaries and the tasks of the producers- even if they still resent the drift that transitorily deviated from its function of communitarian service -, this remains to be the same one: To make Future.
