BIO International Convention is a global event for biotechnology brought together industry leaders for networking, partnering, and deal-making in the city of Chicago.
One of the events – called Son of a Pitch - had a more than expected winner in Daniela Couto from Cell2B.
Described the organizers as "Biotech's Got Talent," it offered biotech start-ups, amongst others a chance to try out their pitches on five heavy venture capitalists, Aisling Capital, Lilly Ventures, Baxter International, Third Rock Ventures and CMEA Capital. All presumably have heard more than a few pitches from biotech startups seeking investments and strategic opportunities. Of course such an interesting panel brought a, predictable large number of willing participants, eager for the chance for 30 seconds in front of the panel.
After 12 or 15 pitches the panel voted on winners and emerging victorious was Daniela Couto, CEO of Cell2B, a cell therapy firm that as some of its activities based in Taguspark, and Donn Rubin, president and CEO of the BioSTL Coalition, a collaborative group fostering innovative life sciences programs in St. Louis. Both won bragging rights and, even better, a one-on-one meeting with the panelist of their choice. And that could lead to bigger opportunities.
